Santa and Zeb

"Santa and Zeb"

This Santa Gourd was painted by me on a natural thick shelled gourd. He has been hand painted in rich hues of red, green, vintage white and other colors. Various painting techniques were used to bring out depth and contrast. This Santa sports a great big smile. He holds a doll, Christmas tree and gingerbread on one side and a teddy bear, and gift. His best friend Zeb a Yellow Labrador accompanies him on his yearling outing to bring gifts to the kids.

Santa and Princess Sophia

Santa is a one of a kind Original Gourd character created by me Penny Grotz Streit. Santa is painted on a thick shelled gourd. He is painted as a visual story. Santa holds a Chihuahua princes Sophia and a poinsetta garland in his left hand and arm. Santa holds a doll and and lantern in his other hand. He has an ornery elf peeking out of his hood on the back.(probably afraid Santa will put him to work).I placed some paper mache at the top of his hat for a ball. He has brush stroke decoration on the sleeves and middle edges of his coat for added interest. The Chihuahua is painted after my own precious Sophia and if you have ever been owned by a Chihuahua you understand they go by Princess or Prince as you are merely here only to serve them.

He is large and measures12" tall by 7" across with a 7" depth.

This guy would look so sweet sitting on a sideboard, mantel or table in a Christmas vignette. Santa has been painted in rich hues using various painting techniques to bring out depth and eye catching features. He is sure to become a family heirloom. Santa created for Bernita in Arizona

Below is a Santa I was commissioned to do for a sweet Lady in Arizona. I don't often do commissions due to various factors, but couldn't resist this offer as Bernita had lost her three little guys. I guess you could call this a posthumous portrait of them. You can look at more photos on my ETSY. Thank you Bernita!!

Ms. Hattie Spellman

"Hattie Spellman"

She is one of those "Spellman sisters". They are known about town as quite the old cronies. Hattie has a huge crush on the Man in the Moon. He was less than enchanted so she actually plucked him right out of the sky and forced him to take her to the Halloween Ball. Hattie's constant companions Thadeus Toad and Sylvia the spider are also attending the Ball. 

This is an original one of a kind Witch gourd created by me Penny Grotz Streit. Hattie is painted in colors of burnt orange, vintage white and soft black. Her hat is decorated with sunflowers, cobwebs and a spider. She has pumpkins or jack o lanterns surrounding her body with a toad painted on one. I did add some clay to the bottom of the gourd so she would stand upright and stable.  Hattie  measures 9 " tall and 4 " across. She was given a faux vintage or antique look with an umber wash.  She has been artist signed and dated by me with a 1/1 indicating he is a one of a kind and will not be recreated. She has been coated with polyurethane for lasting years of beauty.

Queen Of Hearts One of a Kind Folk Art Creation On Etsy

Happy New Year! This lady was created by me and has been a part of my personal collection. I have decided to part with her just in time for Valentines . What a saucy character she is with her pouty pompous expression.  I created her from a Gourd and paper clay in 2010. She is artist signed and dated by me with a 1/1 indicating she is a one of a kind and will not be recreated. She was hand painted and  holds a heart shaped sign bearing the words of Emily Dickinson. "All I know of love, is that love is all there is". The Queen carries a bouquet of pink roses, chocolates and perfume. A swarvoski crystal is embedded in her crown.

She measures 10" tall by 6 1/2" across. 

Several layers of polyurethane has been applied for protection. She has been aged with umber washes and paint splattering.
